Star Trek USS Reliant in Lego by Myko

Approx 15 thousand Lego pieces, a year in planning and building prototypes and you end up with this – an internally lit scale model of the USS Reliant from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan by Christer Nyberg aka Myko.

I realised quickly that it would be impossible to construct a large scale USS Enterprise purely from LEGO, so I had to look for another ship. The USS Reliant is much more compact and less spindly, so it seemed a suitable candidate

Closed since 2009, a toy store lost in time and crammed full of retro collectibles.

From Star Wars figures and Action Man to dolls, Playmobil and Lego, a treasure trove of old toys and games has been discovered in a shop which has been closed for years. The Frank Beech Toy Shop first opened more than 70 years ago and was well-known in Holywell in North Wales for its vast array of toys and popular window displays.

In 2009 the store closed its doors to the public, bringing to an end many decades of service since its opening by Frank Beech in the 1940s. Amazingly, the contents of the store, and store-room, remained untouched and an auction house has now recovered 120 pallets of 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and more recent toys and games.

These include boxes of Star Wars figures, Action Man, trains, Dinky cars, Timpo toys and Britains soldiers, dolls, tinplate and plastic, Airfix and many board games. Despite damp creeping into the shop and damaging some of the boxes, most of the items have survived in great condition.

All the items go on sale this April 2015 at Vectis Auctions in Thornaby, Stockton-on-Tees. A spokesman from the auction house said: “The items are likely to appeal to collectors and dealers as the toys have stood in the closed-up shop for many years. Our specialists are working through the collection one pallet at a time, we could still find many hidden treasures.”

LEGO Star Wars – Micro Battle of Hoth Mini Movie

Lego Star Wars bring us a new Micro-Fighters short (very loosely) based on the classic battle of Hoth scene from The Empire Strikes Back.

As per usual, Lego have added lots of elements from upcoming Star Wars sets and tied them all up with a comedic bow. Movie crossovers, questionable construction skills and the epic music of John Williams original score make for a fun couple of minutes viewing. Roger-Roger!

Custom ‘Pop Culture’ Nike Trainers

Just when you find something good, the company blinks out of existence.

In memory of these amazing custom Nike trainers by Daniel Reese, and the now defunct Brass Monki, here are several of the best designs to drool over (courtesy of Geek Tyrant).

Vintage Star Wars Toy Store Window Display.

Wow, if I had a time machine I probably shouldn’t go back in time just to drool at this window but I probably would. When local Toy Stores were the place to be and sales were booming thanks to a little movie franchise called ‘Star Wars’.

Darth Vader visited this store, the kids (and adults) must have gone wild!

Mario Aquarium

Way back in Twitter time I posted an image of this Mario themed fish-tank that set my alerts on fire. I had no idea there was a video to go with the story or how the tank was constructed. NEW INFO: The tank is owned by gamer and Michigan-based ad copywriter Cedric Bearss and was constructed a few years ago using Lego and general fish tank stuff. I have seen a few of these now but this one is still my favourite.
