60 Iconic Weapons from Fiction

When we think of our favorite fictional characters, we often associate them with an item, or talisman, that is every bit as iconic as the characters themselves. In many cases, this item is a weapon. Weapons come in many forms; there are guns, swords, and everything in between. They can be as amazing as Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber or as unique as the Fat Man from the Fallout video game franchise.

Gaming & retro tissue boxes by kanojo

These Rubik’s, Mario, Portal and Game Cubes built to conceal a box of tissues by kanojo are not to be sneezed at.

“We happen to be fans of Big Bang Theory and in one episode, we spotted a Rubik’s Cube tissue box somewhere in their geek apartment. Of course they’re not the first one to have this idea but we got curious and were convinced they would make awesome Christmas gifts for our friends.”

“In the end we overdid it a little and made every cubic (and geek-ish) item we could think of. Each cube is made in a different way, some painted, stencilled or glued.”

There are loads of images and a build guides via their blog.kanojo.de including dimensions, cutting, painting, stencilling etc. and they also sell card versions with a magnetic lid.

Custom Paper Mario Amiibo by SuperAmiigos

Custom, and functional, Paper Mario Amiibo by SuperAmiigos.

The figures look great on display and each comes with a compartment in the base to hold a fully functional Amiibo NFC chip. Each figure is a limited edition of 25 in each pose and comes individually numbered on the base.

The Amiibo’s NFC chip is acquired from an original Amiibo. The original figure’s base is taken apart and the chip is placed inside the Paper Mario characters custom wooden base. “Each custom Paper Mario [character] is made with paper, wood, glue, patience, and tweezers.”

When the NFC chip is installed (supplied by yourself or as an option from SuperAmiigos), the custom figure is fully functional with any applicable Amiibo supported Nintendo game. Custom Amiibo display units are also available along with colour choices for your figures.

Mario Chain Chomp cat bed by Catastrophic Creations

Catastrophic Creations create unconventional, interesting and stylish cat furniture. Here we have a one off Chain Chomp as featured in many Mario games, famously biting at passing Mario Karts and generally causing mayhem on the track.

This was originally going to be a litter box. It took an incredibly long time to make, and because of this we’re only making one. I wanted to do something that could sit in a room as art, but also be a usable piece of [feline] furniture.”

The wooden box has hinges on the inside, so that it doubles as a storage space for kitty litter or cat food. The whole piece (other then the wooden box) is made from hardened Styrofoam, including the chain, and multiple layers of Epoxy and other products give the Chain Chomp its metal appearance.

You can check out Catastrophic Creations cat bridges, shelving, play areas and more via their WebsiteFacebook, Twitter and Instagram.

He-Can and Skelecan: The pop culture art of Grim Nyberg

Graffiti and mural artist Grim Nyberg has taken a couple of broken Masters of the Universe figures and created He-Can and Skelecan. Custom figures taken to a whole new level of awesome, they have the power!

His work also includes huge bespoke murals inspired by Ghostbusters, Star Wars, RoboCop, Mario and other Pop Culture Icons. I’m sure he would be happy with more commission work so drop him a line via the website.

Adventure Time, Mario and Super Smash Bros. hand painted footwear by Benjamin Bush.

Product designer and artist Benjamin Bush creates fun and colourful painted designs on trainers.

“I simply don’t see any shoes out there that I like any more so I started decorating and embellishing my own. I still find that I’m learning how to work with different artistic mediums. As far as application methods are concerned, it’s still a work in process. Other than that I just try to see how much contextual detail I can cram into a $30 pair of kicks.”

Geeky Nesting Dolls by The Butler Art

I own a set of nesting dolls that belonged to my mum, the traditional Russian kind.

The Butler Art has produced some brilliantly geeky, but disturbing, nesting dolls featuring Ghostbusters, Mario and Friday the 13th. They would look great ‘nesting’ on my shelf.
