Pop culture Magritte style portraits by Ben Chen

René Magritte was a Belgian surrealist artist whose work is famously known for the use of suited gentlemen, bowler hats and apples. Artist Ben Chen brings Magritte’s classic painting “The Son of Man” kicking and screaming into the world geekdom by introducing Harry Potter, Mars Attacks, Hellboy, Indiana Jones, Iron-Man, The Joker, Superman, Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers and Alien into the mix.

Marvel’s Avengers Gundam by Aburaya Tonbi

As we know, huge robots, mobile suits and such like are a big thing in Japan. With this in mind Japanese artist Aburaya Tonbi  油屋とんび has illustrated a series of Marvel / Gundam mashups including  the current Avengers line-up of Captain∀merica, Wing Gundam “Thor”, Hulk Unicorn, Gelgoog Marine Hawkeye, Gerbera Black Widow and Iron Man Type 100. If it was an animated series, I’d watch it.

Custom Fallout, Iron Man & The Thing My Little Pony by daunted

I’ve previously covered custom MLP’s but these are too good not to show off in all their Pony glory. By Deviant Art user ‘daunted’, these customs include lighting and incredible attention to detail. The subject matters include gaming, movies, anime, superheroes and horror. My favourite is the R.J. MacReady and Spider Head ‘Thing’ from the classic 1982 horror / Sci-Fi directed by John Carpenter.

All these custom MLP’s are fully sculpted with Apoxie sculpt and Super sculpey, hand painted with model masters and professional grade automotive paints then sealed with gloss for protection. The Iron Man (Pony Stark?) MK XLII Armor has embed LED lights powered by a super long life battery. You can see more of this artists work over on daunted’s Deviant Art profile.

Avengers Clone Troopers by JonBolerjack

Imagine, if you will, that a group of vigilante Clone Troopers are talking a stand in the Star Wars universe to fight for peace, truth and clone justice. Meanwhile, in a parallel universe, things are about to get messy as the Avengers battle Ultron. Suddenly, a huge explosion rips open dimensions and BOOM! Avengers Clone Troopers Assemble!

The work of creative artist JonBolerjack this is an interesting mix of two epic (Disney) franchises.  Check out his work for more interesting Clone Trooper mash-ups.

Volkswagen T1 superhero rides by Chungkong

Volkswagen T1 superhero rides by Netherlands based designer Chungkong.

Superman is fortunate, he can fly. Other superheroes aren’t quite so lucky, having spent their childhoods as mere mortals before being bitten by a radioactive spider or witnessing their parents demise down a back alley. Most of them require something a little extra to get from A to B. What if they couldn’t afford fancy cars, planes, armoured suits or sticky fluid and instead preferred to customise a T1 Volkswagen Van and hit the mean streets as low budget vigilantes Kick-Ass style?

Money Art by Donovan Clark

Money Art is an art project that Donovan Clark has been working on since March 2012.

Donovan paints intricate imagery on one dollar bills, and uses them for tips when he gets a cup of coffee or breakfast. Donovan is interested in the concept of “free art” and how it relates to this project. Donovan alters the presidents portrait into a popular icon, or he paints a realist image on the bill such as ladybugs or cracks. I’d buy that for more than a dollar.

Marvel Superheroes.

The Muppet Show.

The Simpsons

Transformers Soundwave.
